The old firm derby has been a one sided affair over recent years with Celtic domination over their Glasgow rivals. The surprise summer appointment of ex-Liverpool and England midfielder, Steven Gerrard, as Rangers manager has brought some belief and solidity to the team. However, I still believe Celtic are some way ahead in terms of quality and cohesion. I am picking Celtic to make the most of their home advantage and experience.
Celtic have not had the best of starts, registering a loss to Hearts already, and rumours of unrest behind the scenes between board and manager, Brendan Rogers. The late transfer of Moussa Dembélé to Lyon in the week would not have helped matters.
Steven Gerrard is unbeaten so far this term, and they have looked well organised at the back. Gerrard and Rogers did not part on the best of terms at Liverpool, due to Rogers leaving the Liverpool captain on the bench for crucial European matches.
Celtic outright at 1.65 looks decent value.
Betway.com are offering 50/1 for a £1 bet on Celtic to win for new accounts. Winners will receive a free bet (minus the original stake)
I am expecting a low scoring game. Under 2.5 goals at 1.35 is worth some action. Rangers are likely to set-up defensively and look to catch Celtic on the break.
